Women’s Roles during the American Revolutionary War
The American Revolutionary War was a significant time in history. What comes to people’s minds when they think about the Revolutionary War is powerful men such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and many more. Why do men’s names come to remembrance more frequently than women’s when thinking about the American Revolutionary War, were they less significant? During the war, women were not just helpmates to their husbands or dutiful daughters, but took an active role in the war themselves. These mothers and daughters took on many different roles during the war, from boycotting British tea to taking up arms against the British. The actions by these women and girls helped lead the colonists to victory.
